Westchester County provides assistance to for profit and not for profit developers to create affordable housing opportunities for various eligible household income levels and sizes. Affordable housing is generally defined as housing for which the occupants are paying no more than 30 percent of their gross income for all housing-related costs, including utilities. The rent or sales prices for affordable housing are determined so as to be affordable to households at a certain income range established by the federal government, generally between 30% and 80% of the area median income.
